If you’re keen to follow a vegan diet and have been diagnosed with ADHD or are a parent of a child with ADHD, simply continue reading to discover a few helpful tips on following a vegan diet. As there are a wide variety of benefits associated with consuming a vegan diet as an individual who has been diagnosed with adhd. Especially if enjoy reading informative articles in diet magazines which provide you with effective advice on how to change your lifestyle for the better!

ADHD and vegan diet tips:

Consume super foods which will boost your brain power:

Some examples of super foods which have the ability to boost your brain power, memory and concentration include blueberries, almonds, tofu and avocados. It’s a great idea to keep small zip lock bags of blueberries and almonds with you at all times, so that if your energy starts to fade, you’ll be able to quickly eat a few handfuls of blueberries or almonds. It’s also well worth adding avocados to your salads, sandwiches, wraps and veggie burgers and eating tofu with vegetables on a regular basis.

Talk to your doctor about your zinc needs:

Some individuals with ADHD have low levels of zinc in their diets. So it’s well worth asking to your local doctor about whether or not you should start consuming foods which are rich in zinc or not. However, avoid adding zinc to your diet without talking to your doctor as too much zinc in your diet could prove problematic based on your individual dietary needs.

Consider decreasing the amount of gluten in your diet:

A high percentage of individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD benefit from following gluten free diets or decreasing the amount of gluten which they consume on a daily basis. As gluten has been linked to an increase of common adhd symptoms. So while you may not want to eliminate gluten from your diet altogether, you may want to test out eating gluten-free cereal or bread for breakfast. Or loading up on tofu, spinach and mushrooms instead of eating rice and bread on a daily basis.

Ask your doctor for an allergy test:

There is also a high percentage of individuals with ADHD who have undiagnosed food allergies. So before you start following a new vegan diet, it’s a wise idea to ask your doctor for an allergy test. So that you’ll be able to avoid trying new ingredients that you may be allergic to such as nuts.

Make sure to drink adequate water:

While your diet is important, it’s even more important to drink enough water each day. As if you’re dehydrated your ADHD symptoms may flare up and may become worse than normal. It’s a great idea to keep a water bottle on you at all times, in order to avoid dehydration.

So if you are excited about following a vegan diet in order to decrease the effect of your ADHD symptoms, it’s well worth using the tips listed above to help you get started.
